Premium berries wholesale: size, firmness and an unbroken cold chain

How do buyers source berries in bulk?

Premium berry programmes are specified by berry type and variety, minimum berry size, firmness and bloom (for blueberries), defect tolerances, punnet and case format, and a cold chain that keeps fruit cool from field to shelf. Peru is a major blueberry origin; USDA reports that its 2024/25 export season peaked in October–November after a cooler winter pushed timing back.

What “premium” means in a wholesale berries specification

  • Minimum berry diameter and uniformity inside each punnet
  • Firmness and intact bloom on blueberries
  • Low tolerance for soft, split or mouldy fruit, checked on arrival
  • Fast cooling after harvest and continuous cold chain

Berry type and variety

Blueberries, raspberries and blackberries are separate programmes with different shelf lives and transport options. For blueberries, varieties differ in size, firmness and flavour; name the varieties you accept or the characteristics you need.

Grade and reference standard

Customer or national specification. Many berry programmes run on the retailer's or importer's own specification. Write the size, firmness and defect limits you will inspect against, and the sampling method. UNECE standards list

Planning cold storage or reefer capacity for these imports?

Cold rooms, ripening and temperature-controlled warehousing are projects in their own right. ColdMatch, our specialist cold-chain platform, handles that planning.

Cold chain and packing

  • Agree how quickly fruit is cooled after picking and by what method
  • Choose air or sea per variety and shelf life; sea freight needs firmer fruit and tight temperature control
  • Ask for loggers and state who reviews them on arrival
  • Keep cartons cold and avoid condensation at handovers

Documents to check

  • Phytosanitary certificate and any protocol for your origin–destination pair
  • Food-safety certificates your buyers require — copies checked with the issuer
  • Residue testing results if your customers require them

How our team evaluates supply options

After review, our team asks suitable suppliers to quote on your specification and to evidence the points below. Not every supplier can meet every specification; offers that differ are shown as alternatives, not ranked as equivalents. You decide which, if any, to take forward — introductions happen only with your approval.

  • Weekly volume by variety for the weeks you need
  • Cooling capacity and packhouse records
  • Arrival-quality feedback from previous buyers you can contact
  • Market access for your destination

Prices are provided after your specification is reviewed; we do not publish berries prices or stock.

Buyer questions

When do Peruvian blueberries peak?
USDA reports that in 2024/25 Peru's blueberry exports peaked in October–November, later than usual because of a cooler winter. Confirm weekly volumes with exporters for your season.
Should berries travel by air or sea?
It depends on variety, shelf life and destination. Sea freight is common for firm blueberries over long distances; softer berries may need air. State your preference and let suppliers confirm what their fruit supports.
Do you list berry suppliers?
No. Global B2B Group does not publish a supplier directory. Our team reviews your request and approaches suitable suppliers on your behalf; any introduction follows your approval.
