Produce and seafood import markets and origin countries: 2024 trade evidence by HS code
Where avocados, cherries, grapes, blueberries, mangoes and shrimp were bought and shipped in 2024, which countries act as hubs, which origins supply counter-season, which corridors the evidence supports — and what to check before you ask for offers.
Prepared by the Global B2B Group project team · Last reviewed · Jurisdiction: data are global (WITS / UN Comtrade, FAOSTAT); regulatory notes name their country.
Short answer
In 2024 UN Comtrade data, the United States was the largest importer of avocados, fresh grapes, fresh blueberries and mangoes, and China the largest importer of cherries and frozen shrimp. Mexico led avocado exports, Peru grapes and blueberries, Chile cherries, Thailand mangoes and Ecuador frozen shrimp. The Netherlands, Spain and Hong Kong, China appear on both sides — trading hubs rather than end markets.
These are records of past trade. They do not show current demand, available stock, a buyer or supplier ready to deal, or next season's volumes. Our team uses them to frame an RFQ, then confirms supply for your specific request. Buyers are free; requests start at USD 250,000 per year or season, and suppliers do not receive your contact details.

Four roles a country can play
- Final-consumption import market
- Fruit is bought mainly to be sold and eaten in that market. Import value is a fair first signal of demand — but it is last year's trade, not this season's orders.
- Trading / re-export hub
- Fruit arrives, is ripened, repacked or stored, and much of it leaves again. A hub appears on both the import and the export list; its imports are not consumption, and adding them to neighbouring markets counts the same fruit twice.
- Seasonal or counter-seasonal origin
- Fruit is grown and shipped from here. Southern-hemisphere origins (South Africa, Peru, Chile) mostly ship when Northern-hemisphere supply is out of season; only dated, sourced windows are shown.
- Market-access constraint to plan for
- A destination may admit a commodity only from approved origins, registered orchards or packhouses, or after a treatment. A trade figure never proves that a particular origin, exporter or shipment is eligible.
Evidence matrix: 2024 import and export value by HS code, US$ million
“in” = imports, “out” = exports, by the reporting country, from WITS / UN Comtrade. Trade value is a proxy for where fruit moved — not total addressable market, current prices or spot demand. “—” means the country did not report that line. The EU row is the bloc; do not add it to member-state rows.

Fresh vs frozen and seafood
Frozen and prepared goods are different trades from fresh: different origins, buyers and controls. Shrimp codes are the HS 1988/92 lines WITS uses (030613 frozen; 160520 prepared or preserved).

Opportunity map: trade corridors ranked by evidence
Each corridor pairs an origin's 2024 exports with a destination's 2024 imports for the same HS code, then adds dated season or market-access sources. High = both sides in the trade data plus a dated season or access source; Medium = trade data only, or a material gap; Low = emerging or very small base. Logistics fit is not scored — it needs a route-specific proposal. A corridor is a research hypothesis for an RFQ, not a buyer, supplier or deal.

- Destination port or warehouse and the first and last arrival you need
- Pack, label language and pallet configuration
- Cold-chain requirement as you or your customer specify it
- Certificates and market-access conditions your destination requires
- Preferred Incoterms® rule and named place
Documents to prepare

Shipping considerations
- Reefer or air: decide per product and period with the exporter and forwarder; we do not publish transit times or temperatures
- Choose the arrival port for your distribution, not only the cheapest freight
- Build buffer time for inspections at origin and at the border
- Agree logger use per container or pallet and who reads it on arrival
- Match insurance to the Incoterms® rule and the point where risk passes
