Total landed-cost estimator for agricultural products

Turn a supplier price into an estimated delivered cost per usable kg, unit or carton — using only the figures you enter.

Use this estimator to prepare a sourcing request or compare supplier quotes. It is a planning aid, not a source of market prices: it holds no prices, freight rates, tariffs, taxes, exchange rates or loss rates, and leaves anything you do not enter blank.

  • Free
  • No sign-in
  • Calculated in your browser — nothing is sent

Use a point for decimals, e.g. 1.25.

1. Product and quantity

Use the unit the supplier prices in. Quantity and per-unit costs use the same unit.

Total quantity invoiced for this shipment or programme.

From the supplier's pack specification. Needed for cost per kg when pricing per carton, and for cost per carton when pricing by weight.

Your own assumption. Leave blank to calculate without loss; we do not suggest a rate.

2. Supplier quotes

Enter one quote, or up to four to compare them. Quantity, unit and shared costs apply to every quote.

Quote 1

Tells you which costs the price already covers.

Three-letter code, e.g. EUR. Blank means the reporting currency.

As quoted by the supplier.

3. Costs after the supplier price

Enter amounts in the reporting currency. Leave a line blank if it does not apply or you do not know it yet — blank lines are listed as not entered, not as zero.

Three-letter code for all results, e.g. USD.

Countries value imports differently — check the rule for your destination.

  • Packaging & handling

Cartons, labels, palletising, loading — if not in the price.

  • Transport to port or airport of origin

    Pre-carriage from farm or packhouse.

  • Main freight

Sea or air freight from your forwarder or the supplier.

  • Cargo insurance

Premium from your insurer or broker.

  • Cold chain

Temperature-controlled costs not covered elsewhere. e.g. pre-cooling, cold storage, reefer surcharge, controlled atmosphere.

  • Import duty

Rate for your tariff code in the destination country.

  • Import taxes you cannot recover

e.g. non-recoverable VAT/GST or excise. Leave blank if you reclaim them.

  • Port, inspection, certificates & brokerage

Terminal handling, phytosanitary or veterinary inspection, customs broker.

  • Delivery to your warehouse

    On-carriage at destination.

Other costs

    Estimated landed cost

Estimate from your inputs — not a quote, offer or customs ruling.

To calculate, add: the supplier price, the quantity.

No loss assumption entered — results assume the full quantity is usable.

Carry these details into a sourcing request

Opens the request form with product, quantity, terms and this estimate filled in. Nothing is sent until you review the form and submit it.

    Formulas used

    1. Goods value = supplier price per unit × quantity × exchange rate (1 when the quote is in the reporting currency).
    2. Per-unit lines = amount × quantity. “% of goods value” lines = goods value × rate ÷ 100.
    3. Customs value = goods value, or goods value + main freight + insurance, depending on the basis you select.
    4. Import duty = customs value × duty rate ÷ 100 (or the fixed amount you enter).
    5. Import taxes = (customs value + duty) × tax rate ÷ 100 (or the fixed amount you enter).
    6. Total estimated landed cost = goods value + every entered cost line.
    7. Usable quantity = quantity × (1 − loss % ÷ 100). Usable kg = usable quantity × kg per unit × (1 − glaze % ÷ 100).
    8. Cost per usable unit = total ÷ usable quantity; per usable kg = total ÷ usable kg; per usable egg = total ÷ (usable quantity × eggs per unit).

    Assumptions and limits

    • Only unit definitions are built in: 1 tonne = 1,000 kg, 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg, 1 dozen = 12 eggs.
    • Blank fields are not included and are listed in the breakdown; type 0 to show a cost as zero.
    • Loss is applied to usable quantity only — you still pay for the full quantity shipped.
    • Incoterms® notes are simplified reminders; the contract wording decides who pays what.
    • Results are rounded for display; the CSV keeps the same rounding as the screen.

    What you must verify

    • Duty rates, tariff codes, quotas and trade-remedy duties for your product and origin with the destination customs authority.
    • Whether import VAT/GST is recoverable for your business.
    • Phytosanitary, veterinary, health and catch-certificate rules for the product and destination.
    • Freight, cold-chain and insurance quotes, with their validity dates.
    • Your exchange rate source and date.

    Moving to a sourcing request

Sourcing requests are free for buyers. Our team reviews each request; programmes from USD 250,000 total value per year or season move to supplier outreach, and smaller requests stay on file. Our team contacts suppliers on your behalf — your contact details are not shared without your approval.

    Questions buyers ask

Does this tool show current market prices or freight rates?

No. It holds no prices, freight rates, tariffs, taxes or exchange rates. Every figure comes from you, so the result is only as current as your quotes.

Why does it ask for a loss or shrink percentage?

Some product is usually rejected, shrinks or is wasted between shipment and use. If you enter your own expected share, the tool spreads the full cost over the usable quantity. It is optional and has no default.

Can I compare quotes on different Incoterms?

You can enter them, and the landed totals include whatever costs you add. The ranking, however, only compares quotes with the same Incoterms rule and named place, so you see like-for-like offers first.

Why is duty calculated on a customs value I have to choose?

Countries value imports differently — some include freight and insurance, others do not. Choose the basis your destination uses and confirm it with the customs authority.

Does using the tool send my figures to anyone?

No. Calculations run in your browser. Figures only reach our team if you carry them into the request form and submit it yourself.
