Importers and Distributors: Sourcing Industrial Equipment for Client Projects

Short answer

Importers and distributors win on reliability of supply and defensible landed cost, not on catalogue breadth. Global B2B Group identifies qualified manufacturers for a defined scope, issues one comparable RFQ, and makes origin, lead time, duty exposure and after-sales obligations visible before commitment. The platform is supplier-neutral, does not take title to goods, and is compensated from the supplier side.

Who this page is for

Distribution economics are decided long before delivery. Origin determines duty exposure and financing eligibility; manufacturer capability determines warranty risk; scope clarity determines whether the after-sales cost lands on the distributor or on the supplier. All three are set at RFQ stage.

Global B2B Group gives importers and distributors access to a wider manufacturer base than their existing principal network, and a scope structure that makes competing offers genuinely comparable — including the exclusions that quietly transfer commissioning and spares obligations downstream.

The platform does not take title, does not hold stock and does not compete with its users for the end client. It supplies the sourcing layer: scope, shortlist, comparison, and where relevant an introduction to independent trade or project financing parties.

  • Importers supplying industrial equipment into a domestic market
  • Distributors expanding into new process categories
  • Trading houses assembling equipment packages for end clients
  • Local representatives serving EPC and end-user projects
  • Agents needing manufacturer depth beyond their existing principals

The business problems this solves

Principal network too narrow

Existing principals cannot cover every enquiry, and the alternative is turning down projects or quoting with unfamiliar suppliers.

Landed cost surprises

Freight, insurance, duties and local compliance costs turn a competitive quotation into a loss-making order.

After-sales obligations transferred silently

Supplier exclusions on installation, commissioning, training and spares become the distributor's problem after delivery.

Origin and compliance constraints

Equipment origin affects tariff treatment, certification requirements and which financing routes remain available to the end client.

Cash-flow and payment terms

Long lead times with front-loaded payment terms consume working capital before the end client pays.

How Global B2B Group helps

Wider qualified manufacturer base

Builders identified against the actual process requirement rather than against an existing agency agreement.

Comparable RFQ structure

One scope to every shortlisted manufacturer, with inclusions and exclusions made explicit.

Landed-cost visibility

Cost planning that accounts for freight, duties, installation and commissioning rather than ex-works price alone.

Origin and duty considerations

Origin recorded during shortlisting because it drives tariff treatment and financing eligibility for the end client.

Independent financing introductions

Where trade or project financing is relevant, introductions to independent parties — the platform does not lend.

The working process

  1. 1

    Enquiry qualification

End-client requirement, output, timeline and destination market captured.

  2. 2

    Scope conversion

A quotable equipment scope with a single capacity basis and defined boundaries.

  3. 3

    Manufacturer shortlist

Qualified builders identified, with origin and delivery capability recorded.

  4. 4

    RFQ and comparison

Identical scope issued, responses compared on capability, lead time and obligations.

  5. 5

    Landed-cost planning

Freight, duties, installation and commissioning modelled before the end client is quoted.

  6. 6

    Order progression

Delivery and commissioning coordination against the agreed scope.

The same workflow is documented in how it works and in the procurement operating system.

Project examples

Representative, anonymised project types — illustrative of scope and structure, not case-study claims about named clients. Worked requirement examples are published in example RFQs.

Category expansion for a distributor

A processing category outside the existing principal portfolio, sourced with three qualified manufacturers and a comparable scope.

Equipment package for an end-client plant

Several equipment groups assembled into one package with defined interfaces and a single delivery schedule.

Replacement and retrofit supply

Compatible equipment identified for an installed base where the original manufacturer was no longer competitive.

Cold-chain distribution project

Refrigerated capacity specified by temperature band and throughput, then routed to the cold-chain specialist platform.

Specialist platforms in the group

Global B2B Group is the parent platform of ColdMatch Group, FishMatch Group, HatchMatch Group, SeedMatch Group and FeedMatch Group. Where a requirement is dominated by one specialist domain it is routed to the relevant platform. SkyMatch Group is a separate aviation venture and is not part of the industrial B2B ecosystem.

ColdMatch Group

ColdMatch Group is an independent B2B sourcing and project-coordination platform for commercial cold storage, industrial refrigeration and cold-chain infrastructure. It connects buyers with independent manufacturers, equipment suppliers and qualified EPC or turnkey providers.

Frequently asked questions

Does Global B2B Group compete with distributors for the end client?

No. The platform does not take title, does not hold stock and does not sell to end users. It supplies the sourcing layer — scope, manufacturer shortlist and comparison — while the commercial relationship stays with the distributor.

Can you advise on duties, tariffs or customs classification?

General trade context is provided as information only. Classification, duty rates and compliance determinations must be confirmed with a qualified customs broker or adviser in the destination market.

Is trade financing arranged for us?

No. Where trade or project financing is relevant, independent financing parties are introduced; eligibility, terms and approval are decided entirely by those parties.

Does Global B2B Group sell equipment or provide financing itself?

No. Global B2B Group is a supplier-neutral intermediary. It does not manufacture or sell equipment, does not lend, and does not provide financial, legal or tax advice. It prepares comparable technical scopes, identifies qualified manufacturers, structures RFQ comparison and — where relevant — introduces independent financing parties. All commercial terms are agreed directly between the buyer and the supplier or financier.

How is Global B2B Group compensated?

Through a supplier-side fee model. Buyers, consultants, EPC contractors, government bodies and development organisations are not charged for requirement intake, scope preparation or supplier matching. Compensation comes from the supplier side once a matched transaction proceeds, which is disclosed openly so buyers can factor it into their own procurement governance.

Is there a minimum project size?

The platform is built for industrial projects from approximately USD $250,000 upwards, where a structured multi-supplier comparison materially changes the outcome. Smaller enquiries are still answered, but they are usually routed to a specialist platform or to a direct supplier contact rather than run through the full comparison workflow.
