Few suppliers cover all of these well. Decide which packages go to specialists and which to a single integrator before you approach the market — that decision shapes the shortlist more than any other.
Broiler growing houses
Everything inside the shed that determines flock performance and feed conversion.

Four types of poultry equipment supplier
"Supplier" covers four very different commercial models. Choosing the wrong one for your project capability is the most common reason a poultry build overruns on time and interfaces.
Equipment OEMs
Manufacturers of a defined product family — housing systems, ventilation, incubators, feed milling or processing lines.
Use when: Best when you have in-house project capability and want the strongest technology in each package.
Watch: Interface risk between packages stays with you, and each OEM will quote only its own boundary.
System integrators / turnkey suppliers
Suppliers who package several OEM systems into one complete house, hatchery or plant under a single contract.
Use when: Best for first-time developers and greenfield sites where one point of responsibility is worth a premium.
Watch: Confirm which brands sit behind each package and that warranties pass through to you unchanged.
EPC contractors
Full engineering, procurement and construction, including civils, buildings, utilities and commissioning.
Use when: Best for integrated projects combining farms, hatchery, feed mill, processing and cold storage.
Watch: Equipment selection is delegated — fix brands or performance criteria in the contract, not after award.
Distributors and agents
Local representatives of one or several manufacturers, often holding parts stock and service crews.
Use when: Best where local service reach and spare-part availability matter more than the last few percent of price.
Watch: Establish the mandate: exclusive agent, stocking distributor or trader — each carries different liability.
Package scope: fix the boundary before you ask for prices
Most poultry equipment offers are not comparable because each bidder assumed a different boundary. State one of these levels in the RFQ and require every supplier to quote against it.

Supply only (ex-works or FOB)
Equipment and documentation. Freight, unloading, installation, commissioning and training are all yours.

Supply and delivery (CIF / DAP)
Adds transport and insurance to site. Confirm who handles customs clearance, duties and offloading equipment.

Supply with installation supervision
The supplier sends supervisors; your contractor provides labour, tools, scaffolding, cranes and consumables. Define supervisor days and the cost of additional ones.

Full installation and commissioning
Supplier crews install and commission. Define site readiness conditions, power and water at the boundary, and the standby cost if the site is not ready.

Turnkey including buildings and utilities
Civils, sheds, standby power, water treatment and biosecurity included. The single largest source of scope disputes — list every exclusion in the contract.

Performance and aftercare
Performance test at design stocking density, training hours, two-year spares list, service response time and warranty duration by component.
Eight criteria for qualifying a supplier

Reference projects in your climate and scale
A supplier with strong references in temperate Europe may have limited experience of high-ambient, high-humidity conditions. Ask for installations of comparable bird numbers in a comparable climate, with contactable references.

Manufacturer, integrator or trader
Establish who actually manufactures the equipment and who is reselling. Both can be legitimate, but warranty, spare parts and technical liability sit in different places, and the price should reflect that.

Spare parts and service reach
Ask where the nearest service engineer and parts stock are, the response time commitment, and the availability of critical spares. Downtime in a live poultry house is measured in mortality, not hours.

Standards and certification
CE marking, electrical standards for your country, animal welfare requirements of your target market, and — where the product is exported — the certification your buyers will demand.

Control system openness
Confirm whether climate and feeding controllers are open or proprietary, whether data can be exported, and whether third-party integration is permitted without voiding warranty.

Installation and commissioning capability
Supervision only, or full installation? Who trains your staff, in what language, and for how long? A performance test at design stocking density should be defined in writing before the order.

Financial standing and delivery record
Verify the entity you are contracting with, its production capacity, and recent on-time delivery performance. Payment milestones should follow verifiable progress rather than the calendar.

Warranty and performance commitments
Warranty duration by component, what is excluded, and any commitment on ventilation performance, feed conversion equipment tolerance or hatchery uniformity — stated in the contract, not the brochure.
Budget bands before you go to market
Indicative 2026 planning bands used to sanity-check a first budget and to spot an offer that is priced outside the market. They are order-of-magnitude figures for buyer-side screening only — country, climate, automation level, freight and local civils move them significantly, and every real budget should be rebuilt from quotations.

How many suppliers should I invite to quote?
Three to five qualified suppliers. Fewer gives a capital committee no benchmark; more slows evaluation without improving the outcome. Every invited supplier must receive the identical RFQ package and deadline.

Fix the scope boundary in the RFQ, require the same price breakdown from every bidder — equipment, freight, installation, commissioning, training, spares — and normalise the offers into one table before adding energy, labour and maintenance over the asset life.
