How is an equipment loan payment calculated?

Most equipment loans and leases use an annuity: a fixed monthly payment that covers interest on the outstanding balance plus part of the principal. Your payment depends on the amount financed (CAPEX minus down payment), the interest rate, the term and any balloon left at the end. A two-point rate change on a five-year term moves total interest materially — test it before you negotiate.

Quick answers

What is B2B equipment financing?
Paying for production equipment over time through a bank loan, lease, supplier credit or export-credit-supported facility instead of paying the full price up front. Terms depend on the lender and a credit review.
How do I know if a food processing facility investment pays back?
Divide the project cost by the yearly net benefit (extra margin or savings minus running cost) to get simple payback, then test a lower-benefit case. Use the ROI check on this page, and the agri-food plant CAPEX guide to estimate the cost side.

Formula

Monthly payment uses the standard annuity formula with a balloon: P = (L − B/(1+r)ⁿ) × r / (1 − (1+r)⁻ⁿ), where L = financed amount, B = balloon, r = annual rate/12, n = months. Fees, taxes, insurance and grace periods are excluded.

Formula and limits

Net annual benefit = benefit − OPEX. Payback = CAPEX ÷ net annual benefit. ROI = (net benefit × years − CAPEX) ÷ CAPEX. Undiscounted, before tax and financing cost; ramp-up time is not modelled. Add financing interest from the calculator above for a fuller view.

Worked example (illustrative)

USD 100,000 financed at an assumed 12% a year over 12 months, no balloon: monthly rate 1%, payment ≈ USD 8,885, total interest ≈ USD 6,619. The same figures are checked by our automated tests.
