Case and pallet data

Provide every case size, weight, material and surface condition the cell must handle, plus pallet types, pallet dimensions, maximum stack height and weight, slip sheets, layer pads and any export or retailer-specific requirements.

Cases that are flexible, wet, dusty or vary in weight change the gripper design and therefore the cell price and the achievable rate.

Payload is the total of case weight plus gripper weight plus any layer handling, at the worst-case reach and speed. Vacuum, clamp, fork, layer and combination grippers each suit different case types, and the choice constrains the achievable cycle time.

Where multiple case types are handled, tool changeover time and its frequency should be stated so the cell is not designed around an idealised single format.

Patterns, rate and cycle time

State sustained cases per minute for the worst-case pattern, not the best. Pattern complexity, layer count, interleaving and pallet change time all consume cycle time, and a cell that meets the rate on a simple pattern may not meet it on the pattern actually run.

Ask the supplier to demonstrate the rate on that worst-case pattern at factory acceptance.

Safety, guarding and conformity

Fenced cell or collaborative operation, light curtains, muting for pallet exit, safe entry procedure, risk assessment ownership and who signs the conformity declaration must all be named. In Europe the CE responsibility for the assembled line is a defined legal role, not an administrative detail.

German and Polish palletizing projects in particular are frequently priced differently by suppliers purely because guarding and conformity ownership were left implicit.
