Frequently asked questions

Why does throughput matter more than volume in a cold store?

Product entering warm and doors opening for every pallet movement add far more heat than the stored product itself. A store with high daily turnover needs significantly more refrigeration capacity than a static store of the same volume, so inbound and outbound pallet movements must be stated in the RFQ.

What is the difference between chilled, frozen and blast freezing scope?

Chilled rooms hold product near 0 to +4 °C, frozen rooms typically -18 to -25 °C, and blast freezing pulls product down rapidly within a defined time window. Blast freezing is a separate process with its own capacity per batch and must be quoted separately from storage.

What acceptance criteria should a cold chain contract include?

Pull-down time to setpoint, temperature stability and uniformity across measurement points, maximum recovery time after door opening, energy consumption at defined load, alarm and monitoring behaviour, plus the sample period and tolerances used to verify each of these at FAT and SAT.
